Special Seminars on Architectural CADD Software

5/2000

Keynote Speaker for the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada, Ottawa, Canada

Futuristic Computer Design Tools

Prof. Langdon will intrigue us with a look at the cutting edge of where architectural design software and new intelligent hardware is and what will be available very shortly. You may be surprised at what futuristic design tools are available right now (which can give you a serious competitive advantage) assuming you can put up with cutting egde prices or the risks of being a "beta" software or hardware tester. In this session you will get a glimpse of where our design software is going, with web-interlinked architecturally intelligent 3D CADD systems which automatically help generate whole building modules (to code) with plans, sections, elevations and details just an automatic by-product. You will also see how the entire construction project delivery system is being changed as architects have the ability to select actual building products right off product manufacturer's web sites and drop them into place in their CADD models, with the by-product of automatic specifications writing, cost analysis, and detailed accurate interior renderings. Prof. Langdon will also show you some of the new hardware you will be soon using, from Star Trek-like panels you can NOW walk around with sketching your ideas as the panel automatically measures the room and a CADD program converts your sketches into 3D models. We will discuss our wish-lists for future products and design software which Prof. Langdon will bring to the software developers.

Our technology and software has finally reached a point where it is capable of more, much more, than the typical office is currently demanding of it, and there are now many "solutions" actually looking for problems to solve. The developers of these tools need us right now to tell them how we WANT to work and what other kinds of help we would like as we design the built environment.

Prof. Langdon works as a consultant not only to architects wanting to improve their use of technology but also works as a close advisor to the core developers of several architectural CADD software packages. He teaches, troubleshoots, gives special seminar presentations all from his offices at Architectural CADD Consultants in Boston. He has written several books and magazine articles on Architectural CADD, and is now the AEC writer/editor for Cadence Magazine.
