Note from Architectural CADD : VectorWorks is the heart of a series of CADD programs all oriented towards the building construction industry. VectorWorks, formerly called MiniCAD, and formerly made by Diehl Graphsoft, by itself is a great architectural CADD program - with walls, windows, doors, automatic stair/roof/wood frame generators, 2D production, 3D CADD with solid modeling boolean operations, and much more. VectorWorks Architect adds automatic layers, automatic drawing sets, architectural styles, and many architecturally intelligent objects (such as columns, railings, dormers). VectorWorks Spotlight is a lighting design software for lighting designers. There are also other add-ons and "Workspaces" oriented towards mechanical engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, and much more. RenderWorks is a rendering add-on. MiniCAD was the winner of the 1997 Designers 3D CADD Shootout for Architectural CADD Systems, and has placed in the top three every year of that competition.

Comments from Architectural CADD : Unquestionably one of the best architectural CADD programs in the industry. Not as powerful or expensive as ArchiCAD. Clearly superior to many AutoCAD based alternatives. Avoids the compatibility problems the AutoCAD world has (with their AutoCAD 2000 versus ArchitecturalDesktop proxy objects conflicts) as all flavors of VectorWorks can open other VectorWorks files flawlessly. Can exchange DWG files very well too, of course. The biggest controversy in VectorWorks is with Layers vs. Classes (a kind of sub-layer concept) which creates intelligence that cannot be transfered to AutoCAD if used in a mixed AutoCAD/VectorWorks office.

Deal establishes US presence for European software giant, Columbia, MD, February 18, 2000 --- full story press release

What does this mean ? There is no word as yet. Does this mean AllPlan will again be marketed agressively in the USA, or is this move really to consolidate Nemetschek's hold on the European market ? Does this make VectorWorks even stronger, with $30 million dollars of European money, or could this just be a maneuver ? Write to us and tell us what you think. VectorWorks Architect was also the featured software in this weeks AEC Tech News at Cadence Magazine, http://www.cadence-mag.com

Nemetschek North America Combines VectorWorks ARCHITECT with LANDMARK

San Francisco, California (July 27, 2001)" Due to substantial customer demand, Nemetschek North America today announced, at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC), the release of its first combination product, VectorWorks ARCHITECT with LANDMARK. The move to fully integrate these two products was brought about by customers that expressed a need for both products' capabilities. Company officials state that ARCHITECT with LANDMARK is targeted towards full service design firms and is currently available in the US. It will also be available internationally through Nemetschek North America,s distribution channel in the near future.

Stewart Rom, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, stated, "We were originally surprised at the number of customers that were interested in a standalone solution that contains the high-end design capabilities of both of these products. However, we pride ourselves on listening to our customers, and it became apparent from the earliest mentions of LANDMARK that there were many firms that were looking for a fully integrated architecture, landscape and site design solution like this."

As a completely integrated product, VectorWorks ARCHITECT with LANDMARK combines all of the features of both products into one workspace. It also offers a unique hybrid design environment that easily incorporates a project's 2D plans, and 3D models with reports and schedules. For more information and a complete feature set, visit www.nemetschek.net. ARCHITECT and LANDMARK are still available for sale individually.
