Greater Boston AutoCAD Users Group
presents Geoffrey Moore Langdon, AIA
speaking on
Architectural CADD
Wednesday April 4 th, from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
at the Boston Society of Architects meeting hall
52 Broad Street, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02109
This presentation is oriented towards the greater AutoCAD community, and covers the concept of "Architectural CADD" (as opposed to drafting lines with AutoCAD that just happen to be building floorplans/elevations/sections). Thus it is a look at a far broader category, as well as a look at where programs other than AutoCAD are in the development of this whole new paradyme. This is a presentation primeriloy for Principals and Designers, as opposed to tech people.
Although architect-types are only 10% of the AutoCAD user base, we assume
that about 50% of the audience need to do buildings - and that the others
are there because they are interested to learn about that sector of AutoCAD
use. This presentation will also address the needs of other-than-architect
CADD users who need to draw or model buildings - builders, developers, interior
designers, fabricators, manufacturers, perspectivists, building engineers
(HVAC, struc., energy, civil), facilities managers, space planners, and
so on.
This presentation discusses the various options for architectural add-ons to AutoCAD (ArchT, PalladioX, SmartArchitect, ArchitecturalDesktop, BricsnetArchitecturals, etc.), some of the controversial issues created by AutoCAD ArchitecturalDesktop with its artificial intelligence in new architectural "objects", the recent deluge of online object symbol library resources on the web, coordinating building projects with extranets, incompatibilities between different flavors of AutoCAD, and a look at where other competing architectural CADD software (such as Revit and ArchiCAD) currently stands relative to ADT.

The Langdon presentation will take the place of their meeting that month
Note that since this presentation assumes only55% do buildings (as opposed to the usual 99% who attend BSA ACAD meetings) it will not be a step by step tutorial for techies. This may be a good overall conceptual presentation to suggest to your Principals and Designers.
