DataCAD Boston - DBUG meeting 2/24/04 at Langdon's in Avalon
This year the theme of the Langdon DBUG meeting is "DBUG
Light".
- A "Light" version of the tutorial workshops (which
in the past were multi-day).
- Less filling talking by Prof. Langdon (which in the
past was as much as 18 continuous hours)
- A "Light" version of the very popular BSA Seminar Workshop
"CADD File Exchanges" given March 2003 by Langdon, Heuer, and Harrington
- A light version of the smorgazborg (just delivery
pizza this time)
- A light tutorial on how to set up a wireless network
- A "Light" version of croquette (that is much more fun)
- A "Light" version of the 2003 CADD Design Challenge
- a look at the results
- A "Light" look at the results of the Spielberg Lizard
House Challenge
- AOL "light" as part of the solution to email spam hell
- A light version of the house upheaval (the
furniture doesn't have to move (Cindy says yay))
- A look at the drawbacks of student versions of
CADD software
- A look at DataCAD Light !
I also realized that, after hosting DBUG some 18 times
(still averaging more than once per year from years of co-hosting) that,
while I may have mentioned what I do, I have never actually shown the DBUG
group any of my work. I find that seeing other peoples work
is one of the most interesting parts of visiting the different offices
that host DBUG meetings. So, in addition to the above :
- A light tour through GML Architects / and Architectural
CADD recent design projects
Welcome all, Geoffrey Moore Langdon

Detailed Descriptions :
DataCAD Tips and Tricks Workshop
Bring your questions on specific how-tos and this workshop
will address them -- from the most basic getting started and drawing setups
to advanced productivity techniques and 3D modeling. For less than
$10 /hr for three hours you can learn how to put that window into a dormer
in 3D, how to redefine symbols, finally get a bead on Multi-Scale plot
layouts, or any of a plethora of tips, tricks, and techniques. You
can bring your questions with you - but if you email them in in advance
we can set up files and make sure we cover your specific questions.
The CADD File Enchange "Light" concentrates just on DataCAD related
issues :
- DataCAD to/from AutoCAD 2004 (and
some about earlier versions)
- DataCAD to/from ArchitecturalDesktop2004
- DataCAD to/from ArchiCAD 8
- DataCAD to/from SketchUp
- DataCAD 11 to/from DataCAD 10
- Scan to CADD images and PDFs into
DataCAD / Images and PDFs from DataCAD
- How to get 3D AutoCAD views to 2D in DataCAD through
Windows metafile
- Now that eproject.com is finally cutting off signups
for its free service, we will discuss our options for replacing this single-best-option
for transferring CADD files to other offices.
Avalon Croquette
The newest incarnation of what was originally Watch Hill
"beach croquette" (where you are allowed to send opposing colors into the
ocean and even dig trench channels) similar to cross-country croquette
In this version we do a circuit around the gazebo, woods, and hill - furthest
behind gets an extra shot, and making each wicket you have a "shot".
