The 4th Designers 3D CAD Shootout for Architectural CADD Systems, held at A/E/C SYSTEMS in Los Angeles this week was immensely successful and was the highlight of the entire A/E/C SYSTEMS conference. Hundreds of architects watched in amazement as a dozen of their peers put their necks on the line and designed the complete project right in front of them all in 3 hours. The project site and design program which was not known to the participants until the cue "gentilemen, start your mice" was a Resort Clubhouse in Orlando Florida. It was to have a Caribbean theme, and be in stucco with stone walks, archways, metal gable roofs, and so on, and be about 20,000 square feet, intertwined with an extensive meandering pool, with a required pool bridge of stone. Every single Team did very well and produced amazing animations, beautiful perspectives, and comprehensive 2D plans, sections, elevations, and details.
In fact, Professor Langdon said that since all the Teams did so well, that totalling up the jury scores was the grade-tallying equivalent of not just a horse race "photo-finish" but a "digital enlargement of a photo-finish". Every Team ended up with at least one first or second place in some category.
Several architects present agreed that the only loosers in this competition were the developers and users of other CADD software that chose not to even try to compete with these six who are the best of the architectural CADD field.
(The stunning drawings and perspectives are being uploaded right now, as are the numerical results, the jury comments, and the list of Architectural CADD Award winners. Please bear with us as we upload these as fast as possible.)
