Simultaneously, at the event, there will be presentations from experts in design software, with advice on hardware, CADD and imaging software, World Wide Web page writing, and setting up networks, all oriented for design offices.
People attending the shoot-out will be treated to a plethora of information concerning the future and current development of their firms, and real practical useful tips and techniques. They will also get to vote for the design team and CADD software they feel has done the best job.
Architecture as a Spectator Sport
The way this event is designed, with stringent and visually exciting requirements due in such a relatively short time, with side by side comparisons of the capabilities of a whole new class of design software, it promises to be extremely interesting from beginning to end. Years ago, people said that Sailing could never be a spectator sport - and analogies akin to 'watching grass grow' were common. Anyone familiar with the onboard televised team coverage of the America's Cup every four years now, knows that, given the right format formerly unlikely things can be spectator sports.
This event promises to be very interesting for many kinds of designers, whether they are looking to switch (or even start) CADD softwares in their firm, or see what other firms are capable of (and maybe find out why others are the 'short listed' ones). Design schools and students will also want to see what is possible - particularly with the newer architecturally intelligent solid modelers. In just one afternoon a firm will be able to see, evaluate, and decide together, about how computers should fit in with their firm - saving potentially hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours of talking with consultants and VAR dealers.
The costs of the event is $45 admittance ($25 for students) with a discount for purchasing tickets in advance - dropping the cost to $35 until 10/24/97.
