Imaging Advice for Architects
Note 1 : The best trick is a simple screen-capture, where you can snap an electronic shot of anything whatever is on your screen at that particular time.
On Macintosh, hold down Comand-Shift and then 3, and you will hear a camera shutter click, the resulting pict files will be named "Picture1", "Picture2", etc. and be on your desktop - they are double-clickable (convert them to gif with PhotoShop).
On a Windows System, hold down Alt-PrintScreen (which copies the screen to a memory buffer), you can then hit "paste" in any other Windows program, we suggest using the WindowsPaint program (Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint). The file will be a huge BMP file. Convert it to gif with PhotoShop. The Windows98 version of Paint can save directly to gif.
Note 2 : A graphic file converted to gif can be as much as 1000 times smaller than a BMP or Pict file, and smaller than a jpeg version. You should convert files to gif in most circumstances - especially if you wish to post the image on the web.

Piranesi
Informatix Software International (http://www.informatix.co.uk) announced 1 Nov that Piranesi v2 is now shipping. This unique drawing software preserves 3D information in raster images, which lets it handle 3D perspective and geometry. New features include:
-- Configurable multi-step Undo/Redo.
-- Re-apply command makes experimentation with different effects simpler.
-- The "Tweaking" option allows textures and cutouts to be roughly placed then accurately repositioned in the scene.
-- Any Photoshop format plug-in can be used.
-- Accepts models in DXF, 3DS, or THF format.
