BSA Committee on Design Software
1. Each month - three hour meeting (free)
* comparisons of major CADD options
* overview/introductions of new CADD software
* mini tutorials
2. The BSA committee on Design Software may also sponsor special traveling seminars on specific CADD packages
3. The BSA Committee on Design Software will also post reviews of software as well as links to the various software sources on a special BSA web site.
4. Design Software Forum for discussions / advice / troubleshooting on specific CADD programs as well as CADD in architecture in general.
5. Designers collaboration - a virtual office of CADD expertice - for those who need work or wish to get work done
The emphasis is on CADD software for architectural design, and each month CADD software will be covered. Occasionally we may also take a look at Design Software for interior design, space planning, solar energy, and so on.
The monthly meeting will also be hosted each month by a different architectural design firm - allowing advocate users of particular CADD software to show us why and how they use their design software, and allowing offices with glitches to get help from the group.
This committee will also serve as a forum for the introduction of new architectural software as it comes out. Additionally we will have presentations on the software that is available for free download on the web - such as DesignWorkShop, SoftCAD3D, IntelliCAD2000, and many more.
The mini-tutorials will help 2D CADD offices get started with 3D CADD modeling, help with productivity techniques, help offices with generic software get going with architectural add-ons - such as Palladio, ArchT, and ArchitecturalDesktop for AutoCAD users, and TriForma for Microstation users.
We see this new committee on Design Software to be a central clearinghouse of information and a liason to the AIA CAP (national), ACADIA, the BSA New Technology committee, and the various specific CADD groups within the BSA (for DataCAD, ArchiCAD, Microstation, AutoCAD). It also becomes a generic forum where we can see other software that may be supplementary to our primary CADD software (such as FormZ, 3D StudioViz, ChiefArchitect, and SoftPlan).
We can also see this group being a clearinghouse of CADD-specific talent, where design offices can come to find help finding CADD managers, and freelancers can find work.
